RO 37 million pact for red meat project signed

MUSCAT: Al Bashayer Meat Company has signed a master consultant agreement for the integrated Red Meat Project in the Wilayat of Thamrait in the Governorate of Dhofar with Haller and Al Salmi for Architectural and Engineering Consultancy, which will set up the design and supervise the construction of the project. The total investment of this integrated national project is RO 37 million.


The company’s strategy is to build an integrated red meat project based on the import of live animals from different sources to be fattened within a specified period and then sold directly to the consumer or slaughtered in a slaughterhouse with international standards, meat to be frozen, distributed and sold in local markets and markets of neighbouring countries.


A meat processing plant and its derivatives will be established to make the most of the animals to ensure the full sustainability of the project, contribute to the food security system and raise the self-sufficiency ratio in the Sultanate.


Dr Rashid al Masroori, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Oman Food Investment Holding Company, says, “Al Bashayer Meat is one of the company’s projects which will enhance the food security and contribute to increasing the self-sufficiency ratio of red meat to more than 80 per cent in the coming years.”


Saleh bin Mohammed al Shanfari, CEO of Oman Food Investment Holding Company (OFIHC), Board Member of Al Bashayer Meat Company said that Al Bashayer Company is the third in the food security company as part of its strategy to enhance the food security and raise self-sufficiency rates of food products.


Abdul Salam al Kharousi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Bashayer Meat Company, said the project is considered the first of its kind in the Sultanate, which was planned to be integrated and comprehensive.


Dr Ghalib bin Said al Saeedi, Director-General of Al Bashayer Meat Company, said the company is moving towards achieving the desired goals and is striving to be the distinguished local brand and reliable source of red meat.


He added that the project’s strategy is to purchase healthy animals from around the world and then transferring them to the company’s site in Thamrait. — ONA
