ZAINAB AL NASSRI -
With the aim to make travelers feel more comfortable during flights, students from Sohar College for Applied Sciences invented an application that is designed only for this purpose. Named “high sky services’ by students Hafsa al Ansari and Halima al Balushi, the system includes all services that travelers need during the flight. The traveler will be able to make any order electronically via the TV screen inside the plane. After ordering, the crew will receive the order from their side and fulfill it accordingly.
The two students explained, in case of no screen available on the flight, the traveler can download the application in any smart device like phones, tabs, and iPad.
The application was awarded in Berlin, Germany as the most outstanding youth projects for the year 2016. It also obtained first place in the Scientific Research Council contest this year. The students displayed their project in the third edition of Information and Communication Technology exhibition, which was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education recently. They confirmed that are still developing and improving it to make it applicable and they hoped for support from concerned authorities.
Supporting Omani youth projects has been a target for many establishments, especially those related to using modern technology. TRC, for example, looks into creating an innovation ecology that is responsive to local needs and international trends, fosters social harmony, and leads to creativity and excellence. There are other authorities support and track students’ technological initiatives like ITA, and MoHE.
