

MUSCAT: The Omani Islamic scholar Shaikh Said bin Khalaf al Kharousi, former assistant grand Mufti of the Sultanate, passed away on Sunday aged 92 in his house in Al Wadi Al Kabir. Born in Nakhal in 1925, Al Kharousi studied and memorised the Holy Quran at age 10 and then studied Arabic grammar and Sharia sciences in Nakhal and Nizwa. In 1961, he was appointed as a judge in Samayil. In 1976, he was transferred to Al Rustaq where he worked as a judge for three years and in 1980 he was shifted to Al Buraimi. In 1982, Al Kharousi moved to Muscat where he worked as a judge of the appellate courts until he assumed the position of assistant grand Mufti in 1987.
