MUSCAT: The Sultanate’s production of electricity till the end of October 2016 increased to more than 29,006 gigawatt (GW), logging a 4.2-per cent increase compared to the production recorded during the same period in 2015. Similarly, water production grew to exceed 314 million cubic metres with an increase of 12.6 per cent till the end of October 2016, compared with the same period in 2015, according to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The Sultanate’s total electricity production till the end of October 2016 stood at 29,614.4 GW per hour, compared to 28,426.5 GW per hour in the corresponding period of 2015.
The Governorates of North and South Al Batinah and the Governorate of Al Dhahirah recorded the highest rate at the governorates level as the production of these governorates stood at 15,767.1 GW per hour, comprising an increase by 8.7 per cent, compared to 14,507.4 GW per hour in the same period in 2015. The total electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat reached 3,429.5 GW per hour with a decline of 29.2 per cent compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 4,845.8 GW per hour.
The electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar reached 2,856.4 GW per hour at the end of October 2016 with an increase of 1.7 per cent compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 2,809.4 GW per hour.
The net of the Sultanate’s electricity production till the end of October 2016 reached 29,212.3 GW per hour, compared to the figures recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 28,088.5 GW per hour with an increase rate of 4 per cent.
This production includes the procurements of Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the procurements of the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).
On the other hand, the Sultanate’s production of water till the end of October 2016 reached 314,053,900 cubic metres with an increase of 12.6 per cent compared to the water production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 278,963,100 cubic metres.
The water production in the Governorate of Muscat grew by 10.4 per cent to reach 142,478,200 cubic metres compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 129,094,600 cubic metres.
The water production in the Governorate of Dhofar increased by 28.3 per cent to reach 39,911,000 cubic metres compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 31,101,100 cubic metres. The water production in other governorates till the end of October 2016 increased with 10.9 per cent to reach 131,644,700 cubic metres compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2015, which reached 118,767,300 cubic metres. — ONA
