By Mai Al Abria — MUSCAT: Feb. 5 - The Winter Market organised by Arabian Gate Company from February 15 to March 13 marks a leap in the concept of traditional market in the Sultanate, being the first of its kind in the country. The market aims at activating the economy and highlighting the Omani products, and small and medium enterprises. Its objective is to provide high-quality products and encourage small companies to grow regionally. The market will be held in an open area at the Ministries District in Al Khuwair from 4 pm to 10 pm. Sixty small enterprises from across the country and the Gulf are expected to participate.
Each week of the market will focus on a different theme. The first week will promote coffee and chocolate, and the second week for honey and dates. The third week is for spices and the last week for flowers.
Five carts will be given to five small entrepreneurs who can’t afford the rent of kiosks. Each entrepreneur will have an opportunity to use the cart for three days.
In an attempt to provide multiple options to consumers, the organising company has invited small Gulf companies to promote their products.
Workshops will be held to enable entrepreneurs discuss related issues with officials in the private sector and find solutions for challenges faced in the market.
The market encourages children aged 10 to 16 years to promote their products at the event ‘A Growing Entrepreneur’ in which “special kiosks” will be earmarked for the purpose.
The market will see several activities, including entertainment for families and children. It will have a special corner for children.
The organising company plans to hold such a market in the other GCC countries to showcase Omani youth talent and emphasise their capability in organising innovative events.
