By Kaushalendra Singh — SALALAH: Feb. 22 - The Royal Oman Police discussed the issues of safety and security with all the stakeholders in Salalah on Wednesday at a high profile meeting attended by the senior and junior police officials, defence personnel, corporate houses and a large number of officials from different ministries. The thrust of the meeting was establishing co-ordination with all the stakeholders for a workable and effective policing which can match pace of the time and challenges there in.
Captain Mohammed al Sadi (pictured), Head of Security Consultation Department in the Directorate General of Operations, gave an overview of the meeting and called it a continuation of a similar meeting held in 2016. “Here in Salalah we picked up from where we left last time and have plans to cover all the regions of the Sultanate in near future,” he said.
Commenting on the very purpose of such a big gathering, Al Sadi said: “The sole purpose here is to provide security based on upgraded models and latest means available globally.”
“Development gives us challenge to upgrade our system and ourselves. There are many state-of the-art installations in the Sultanate and has a large number of tourist arrival every day. This keeps us busy with doing assessments for overall security,” he said. The corporate houses were exhorted not only to abide by the rules and regulations but also to assist the law enforcing agencies by installing security systems in their establishments.
“Take for example banks. So many people come and go in the banks on daily basis and most of them are their valued customers. We want to make them understand our point of view about security and the value of installing security systems in their establishments. The example applies on every corporate house.”
Another purpose of the meeting, according to Al Sadi, is to do a familiarisation of the service providers with the corporate houses and ROP as inspecting authority to do away with the obstacles of permission and other formalities.
“There have been cases when we receive complaints of too many formalities from our side in giving permission to set up security installations. This happens mainly due to procedural requirements. Through this meeting we want to interact with the senior management of security service providing companies and do away with the misgivings of financial and managerial issues,” said Al Sadi.
Commenting on the challenges being faced by the police in ensuring law and order, Al Sadi said: “Almost daily we hear about new modes of crime being adopted by the criminals. According we have to act. Since we have laws and rules in place we quickly adapt to those situations.”
As an expert in security consultant, Al Sadi called upon people to be alert and do not hesitate in reporting any incident of crime to the police. “Security starts with an individual. An alert individual can provide security to family and society and finally the country becomes safe. So every individual has some role to play in country’s security.”
