MUSCAT: ISM celebrated the ‘World Thinking and Brotherhood Day’ with pride and gusto. ‘Thinking Day’ is annually celebrated on February 22 by all Scouts and Guides around the world as it was the birthday of Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Boy Scout movement and Lady Olave Baden Powell, his wife, World Chief Guide.
It is a day when the Scouts and Guides think about their ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’ in all the countries of the world, the meaning of Scouting and Guiding and its global impact. The theme chosen for this year’s World Thinking Day is ‘grow’.
A total number of 4,265 students from classes III to VIII and 162 staff members from primary and the middle sections along with the officiating Principal Deep Wilson; Chief Commissioner, Oman District, Jacob Zacharias; Felcy Fernandes, Secretary, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Oman District; vice-principals, assistant vice-principal of the Middle Section, heads of various departments gathered on the school field to witness and be a part of the day’s celebrations. All the students and the teachers were in their Cubs and Bulbuls, Scouts and Guides’ uniforms which added to the sanctity of the occasion.
The day’s programme began with the ceremonious flag ceremony. The flag song and the prayer were sung with a sense of deep pride and commitment towards this movement.
Wilson addressed the young Cubs, Bulbuls, Scouts and Guides stating the importance of this movement and to have a deeper sense of understanding towards one another. He told them to face boldly the challenging changes of life and grow so as to make the world a better place to live in.
Tanya Pinto of Class VII I spoke on the theme ‘Grow’. A melodious song based on the theme befitting the occasion was sung by a group of scouts and guides. This was followed by a colourful costume parade as the school band led a contingent of students dressed in traditional attires based on the theme, carrying placards, slogans and tableau display touching upon global and environmental issues.
