Mansoor bin Nasser al Siyabi, who resides near the mountain said it is home to wide range of animals such as foxes, wolves, lynxes, ibexes, hyenas, reptiles besides various types of birds. Dr Ali bin Said al Riyami, assistant professor of history at the college of Arts and Social Science, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) said the mountain is rich in flora and fauna and boasts varied natural life. The mountain is considered to be a nature reserve but there is concern that some animal species in the mountain are heading towards extinction due to urbanisation.
