MUSCAT: A recent discovery made by historians in the Sultanate has confirmed the existence of plant and animal wealth at Jabal al Luban (mount of frankincense) in the Wilayat of Nakhal which is home to a large number of unique plants widely used as herbal medicines for the treatment of ailment affecting humans and animals alike. Mansoor bin Nasser al Siyabi, who resides near the mountain said it is home to wide range of animals such as foxes, wolves, lynxes, ibexes, hyenas, reptiles besides various types of birds. Dr Ali bin Said al Riyami, assistant professor of history at the college of Arts and Social Science, Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) said the mountain is rich in flora and fauna and boasts varied natural life. The mountain is considered to be a nature reserve but there is concern that some animal species in the mountain are heading towards extinction due to urbanisation.
