MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos University and the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) signed a letter of understanding on Tuesday to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest and to promote research and technical cooperation.
The letter of understanding was signed by Dr Ali bin Saud al Bemani, the Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, and Dr Mohammed bin Nasser bin Ali al Zaabi, CEO of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation
The two organisations seek to establish a framework for enhancing partnership and cooperation and to set out programmes for enhancing collaboration and integration in these fields. SQU and PACA will achieve objectives, including exchange of seismic data, data from the GPS stations and tsunami devices, both real time and archived.
The letter of understanding seeks to exchange publications and scientific journals in the field of earthquakes and tsunami as well as to stimulate technical and research cooperation in order to broaden scientific and professional knowledge in the field of earthquakes, tsunamis, GPS stations data and tsunami devices data.
The two organisations will also exchange experiences and identify equipment and devices of research and monitoring.
They also exchange information to keep up with the scientific developments, updates at the local, regional and global levels, and participate in conferences, seminars, training courses, workshops and other joint activities in the field of earthquake monitoring.
