By Mai Al Abria — For a photographer, winning a contest is not just about the prestige. It’s primarily about one’s creative talent getting recognised not only by their peers and other experts of the craft but the community as well. To gain global attention is a validation not only of one’s hard work but also the dedication, the time and the effort in honing the photographic creative skills of a person.
In a sea of beautiful images, one challenge many photographers face is how they will stand out. It is for this reason that crowdsourcing and joining groups are important — to gain feedback, to have an exchange of ideas, to share tricks of the trade but most importantly to cheer each other to attain one’s full potential. Finding one’s voice — finding one’s signature — is as important as knowing the proper camera settings or the proper gear to use for a specific genre of photography.
Federation of Photographic Arts (FIAP), a biennial competition between member states held every two years.
The biennale is divided into two parts: printed colour photos in which each country participates with 10 pictures for 10 photographers in the same theme. The other section is dedicated to digital images.
Each country provides 20 photographs of the same subject, so that each photographer does not participate with more than two pictures.
