First industrial park in Oman to be ready by 2018

By Lakshmi Kothaneth — MUSCAT: MAY 17 - About 70 per cent of construction works at Sandan Light Industries Park is completed.  This is the first phase of the project and is worth RO 60 million. Oman’s first light industrial park will be ready by the first quarter of next year, the developers have announced here on Wednesday. Speaking to the Observer, the CEO of Sandan Light Industries Park, Said al Rashdi (pictured) said, “We will be ready to rent the outlets by the first quarter of 2018.  We had sold out the project within few days when it was announced and now the next aim would be to target the market early next year for rental.  There are thousands of units being set and so we will make sure that everyone that works in the field gets to know about the project.”

The Park is in negotiation with government entities and has signed an agreement with Oman Post where the postal service will be door to door mail service.  They are also in talks with Mwasalat to ensure the services reach the Park.


Located on Muscat Express Way, the project covers more than 250,000 sq m and integrates 2,200 workshops and exhibition halls for building materials and automobiles, 400 offices and 1,800 residential units for workers.


According to the Chairman of the project, Mohammed bin Suleiman al Kindi, the execution phases and completion rate are as prescheduled and 1,000 plus units are undergoing finishing activities to ensure the on time delivery of the project.


In his statement he said, “The government has played a vital role by supporting this national project based on the strong trust in importance of ensuring income by encouraging the private sector to build more investment projects.”


This 100 per cent Omani project the construction of which is 70 per cent complete, will accommodate 10,000 people with services ensuring a comfortable living environment with a mosque, hypermarket, hospital, shopping centres, banks, travel offices, restaurants and many other amenities.


“The first Industrial Park will ring in a new era in industrial entrepreneurship for Oman. With three front line entry and ten exits, the project is ideally located for customers coming from Muscat or Batinah and ensures the smooth flow of traffic,” added Al Rashdi.


Sandan Light Industries Park is expected to open window to promising investments and development through the Small and Medium Enterprise Sector for dynamic young entrepreneurs to build a wide range of projects benefiting the features of bespoke administrative and financial facilitations.


Sandan Developments Chief Executive Officer, Said al Rashdi affirmed his team’s efficiency and surge to harness all the necessary resources to ensure and implement international standards in quality even on unfavourable situations.


To help in adverse weather conditions, Sandan have invested its best expertise and technology to build and integrate assuring features in the project. According to the officials, researchers are progressing positively to manage the functional ‘Industrial City’ in a smart way to reduce the operational cost and ensure maximum comfort for end-users.

“To deliver the units on time, we agreed with the contractor on increasing the number of labour to 2,000 people and work hours to 16 per day; starting from 6 am to 10 pm,” added Al Rashdi.
