By Zainab Al Nasseri — MUSCAT: May 28 - The last date for vaccination for Haj pilgrims has been extended to June 1, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has said. So far, 12,724 pilgrims have undergone medical examination as well as vaccination. The remaining 262 pilgrims have yet to undergo these procedures. The health centres have been receiving pilgrims since May 8. The MoH said it had received medical forms electronically from the Ministry of Endowment and Religious Affairs. The electronics system was designed by the Information Technology Authority using open source software. Pilgrims now receive alerts and results of their medical checkup via SMS. A central team in the ministry as well as a sub-team in governorates were formed to provide vaccination services and primary healthcare to pilgrims. The total number of Haj pilgrims from Oman this year is 14,000.
