MUSCAT: The State Council Bureau meeting, chaired by Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, State Council Chairman, discussed the proposal submitted by the Committee for Culture, Information and Tourism that will focus on Omani theatre, its present status and role in the society.
The third Bureau meeting, held in the presence of the Bureau members and the Council’s Secretary General, hosted Dr Ahmed bin Ali Mohammed Al Mashikhi, Head of the Committee to perform in-depth discussion on the proposal.
Dr Ahmed Al Mashikhi, elaborated the varied aspects pertaining to the study of the Omani Theatre and its role in society.
He said that the study would identify the obstacles that had prevented the implementation of the plan to advance the theatre, identify the obstacles that have prevented the advancement of the theatre in particular the Omani drama in general, as well as the reality of today’s theatre, challenges and difficulties that limit its mobility.
It also will enable development and propose appropriate solutions and mechanisms for its advancement, as well identify the role of governmental institutions and bodies and their eligibility, especially education, in supporting and supplementing Omani theatre with specialised technical staff in the field of drama and production.
Dr Ahmed Al Mashikhi, noted that the study came in the context of the need to activate the role of the theatre in society, with the aim to enrich the Omani cultural scenario and maximise the role of the theatre in the overall national development process through the activation of its contribution to the revitalisation of cultural mobility.
Following its discussion of the proposal, the Bureau directed the committee to expand the scope of the study to include drama in general and to include all relevant stakeholders in the study of the proposal of the committee.
The Bureau of the Council was briefed on the follow-up of the implementation of the decisions taken at its second meeting, the report on the follow-up to the activities of the committees during the period between the two meetings, as well as the assessment of the third regular session of the third year of the sixth term held last Tuesday, where the bureau praised the efforts, discussions and inputs that added significant value to the topics discussed.
