

MUSCAT: The National Committee of the Disabled Persons Welfare (NCDPW) on Monday held a meeting under the chairmanship of Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development. Al Kalbani stressed the need to continue implementation of the plan on the service of persons with disabilities in the Sultanate. He underlined the remarkable progress achieved by the Committee during its work for the past period. Hilal bin Mohammed al Abri, Director-General of Persons with Disabilities Affairs reviewed the achievements of the Committee during 2017 and the summary report on the activation of the role of the administrative system in light of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Committee discussed a range of topics, including the draft engineering specifications guide for the environment of people with disabilities, and the review of the initiative presented by the Capital Centre Expo on organising an employment exhibition, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Manpower. The NCDPW members discussed the new Disabled Persons Law, the first national report on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the study on the situation of job-seekers in this category and the activation of disability issues through the preparation of awareness-raising information plans or the provision of certain services and facilities by the competent bodies, as well as the integration of children with mental disabilities in the schools of public education in the Sultanate. — ONA
