MUSCAT: OGC’s Internal Football Championship, first introduced in 2016, is now an exciting annual fixture of the OGC’s calendar, offering an opportunity for employees across the company to flaunt their footballing skills.
The annual championship was conceived with the aim of fostering a spirit of camaraderie and cohesion across OGC’s large and geographically distributed workforce. The event brings together players and football enthusiasts alike amid an atmosphere of bonhomie and festivity that helps strengthen bonds of friendship and mutual respect across the organisation.
This year’s tournament saw a total of 12 teams competing for the coveted Championship Cup. It began with four group-qualifying rounds with teams Suhar, Duqm, Nimr, Muscat, Salalah, Fahud, Khazzan, Mukhaizna, Murayrat, Al Ghubra, OOTC, and Marafiq. Suhar, Duqm, Nimr and Muscat entered the semifinal stage.
In the final, Team Suhar trounced Team Duqm in an exciting match that saw the winners combine skill, coordination and teamwork to clinch the trophy. Interestingly, neither of the two finalists of the last championship — Muscat and Fahud — figured in this year’s finale.
The entire tournament was held in a spirit of sportsmanship, competitiveness, and ethical on-field behaviour, which are synonymous with OGC’s corporate values as the energy infrastructure pillar of the Oman Oil Group.
