Arab Hospitals Federation annual forum concludes

MUSCAT: The 19th annual forum of the Arab Hospitals Federation (AHF), organised by the AFH in collaboration with the Arab Ministries of Health, as well as number of associations and health service providers in the Arab world under the theme ‘Partnering to develop the healthcare sector’, concluded on Tuesday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre with several recommendations.


Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, excellencies and under-secretaries visited the forum’s accompanying exhibition that displayed the latest services incorporated in the Arab hospitals, in addition to pharmaceutical and health requirements.


The Arab Healthcare Development Annual Forum (AHDAF) resulted in many recommendations that decided to develop a multidisciplinary guide to patient safety, which provides education in dentistry, medicine, midwifery, nursing and pharmacy, and encourages and facilitates the teaching of patient safety issues to medical students.


Furthermore, the forum recommended the development of national safety and quality programmes with clear goals and objectives to ensure the safety of patient care at all levels and activities and to expand successful safety strategies and activities throughout evidence-based healthcare services.


The forum encouraged state members on establishing Smart Patient Safety Centres and recommended the development of framework that determines the leadership capacities in patient safety and quality of care. The recommendations further touched upon promoting research capacities and activities.


Moreover, the WHO issued a statement in the support of the forum stating its acknowledgment to the commendable efforts and the political commitment at the highest levels that have led to the expansion of the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital initiative in the Sultanate.


The statement mentioned that in Oman the initiative is now covering 26 hospitals from the public and private sectors, showing a great good practice model for other countries to follow.


The forum aimed at highlighting the need of all the stakeholders in the Arab healthcare sector to sit together and creating a cooperative platform in which ideas can become tangible solutions.


The two-day forum included sessions with highly selected presentations from all over the world, including interventions by renowned experts and speakers addressing many subjects including visions and strategies to develop healthcare sector, universal health coverage, accreditation, quality and safety, leadership and talent management, healthcare technology management and health tourism.
