In 2013, Mubarak al Dughaisi entered the door of a hotel in the hope of securing a job. At 18, he was slim and tall with stars in his eyes, a jaunt in his stride with nary a word of English that crossed his smiling lips.
He is aware of the challenges he would face but that didn’t stop him from approaching one of the staff of Al Nahda Resort HR Department. He was motivated to come home at least to tell his folks that he has secured a job in the resort’s housekeeping force.
At a young age, his dream was realistic and contained. He got his eyes on being a ‘Room Attendant’ trainee.
His family members are fishing folks in Barka. This is the life many of them knew — sailing the mighty seas of Oman catching tuna and shark.
A local Omani school educated boy, he is passionate about sports and riding Arabian steeds but coming from a family of ten siblings, his desires to have a better life is something known to his family of which they fully support.
Mubarak, as he is fondly known today, greets you in his inimitable style, a broad smile that never leaves his face, and fluent English. He is a ‘peoples’ person’ and loves marketing beautiful Oman and its culture to every visitor that crosses his path.
With hard work and dedication and undying yearning to improve himself, he has risen to the ranks of Hotel Housekeeping.
And the greatest success he has so far with his career is getting promoted to a Sales Executive in the hotel’s Corporate Sales Team.
Mubarak shared that he dreams of becoming a Hotel General Manager one day. He is busy sowing the seed of his dream building the foundation and experience he needs to be successful in the said feat.
With drive and positive determination, he takes things one at time, learning the things he can and convinced that the future is bright if he puts in the smart amount of work.
