SHINAS: The Al Wafa Centre in the Wilayat of Shinas, Al Batinah North Governorate, has launched an innovative agricultural reserve managed by students with disabilities. This initiative empowers them with essential agricultural skills, fostering self-reliance and enhancing their practical knowledge. The project aligns with the Ministry of Social Development’s ongoing efforts to rehabilitate and integrate persons with disabilities into productive sectors.
Khalid bin Ismail al Balushi, the reserve's supervisor, stated that the project trains students in various agricultural stages, from planting seeds to harvesting, using modern techniques such as drip irrigation and organic fertilisers.
The farm produces a diverse range of vegetables and fruits, tailored to seasonal cycles, ensuring high-quality yields. Beyond agriculture, it serves as an interactive learning space, helping students develop essential skills while promoting their active participation in society.
Al Balushi emphasised that the initiative underscores the Ministry of Social Development and Al Wafa Centres’ commitment to creating an inclusive environment where students with disabilities receive both practical and academic training. It highlights their capabilities as contributors to the economy and society.
Additionally, the project promotes social integration by organising field visits and engaging local schools, farmers and community members to witness firsthand the students' achievements and the project's impact. — ONA
