DUQM: The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) has completed the first phase of the detailed master plan for the Fisheries and Food Industries Complex as part of its efforts to encourage investment in the sector and localise a number of new projects. The complex spans an area of 750 hectares, equivalent to 7.5 square kilometres.
Eng Ahmed bin Ali Akaak, CEO of SEZAD, stated that the complex can accommodate 60 facilities. He added that the zone’s administration has considered future expansion in the detailed design, should there be a need for further development.
He added that the recently completed first phase of the detailed master plan covers an area of 95 hectares. The Fisheries and Food Industries Complex aims to encourage investment in the sector and ensure that service corridors do not overlap with roads, factories and other facilities within the complex.
The final master plan for the Fisheries and Food Industries Complex, covering both the first and second phases, includes numerous service and logistical buildings and facilities. Among the key features are the cold chain complex, the red meat industries complex, the public utilities services complex, the central market, outlets for fresh product sales, residential-commercial buildings, administrative offices, commercial buildings and recreational service facilities.
The commercial and administrative services area will be located outside the complex’s boundaries near the main entrance.
This area will feature several buildings and services, including the administrative complex, retail stores, the grand mosque, a guesthouse, public service centres, a fuel station, a truck weighing station and vehicle service centres.
The main entrance to the complex will be designed to reflect the identity of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
Significantly, the multipurpose fishing port will play a vital role in the operation and development of the complex located just 3 km away. The site benefits from multiple access points, facilitating traffic movement as well as the import and export of products.
