The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday launched a portal and a smartphone app for Omanis abroad under the auspices of Khalid bin Hashil al Muselhi, Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs.
Al Muselhi said this platform reflects the government's efforts in harnessing technology to serve citizens in line with the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. He explained that the new platform will facilitate consular procedures and provide quick access to the services needed by citizens abroad.
Khalid bin Ghulam Hussain al Zadjali, FM's Head of the Digital Transformation Office, explained that this step represents a qualitative leap in consular and diplomatic services, as it aims to achieve greater operational efficiency and reduce reliance on paper in line with Oman Vision 2040. He pointed out that the portal and the app are designed as per latest cybersecurity standards.
The app allows citizens to communicate directly with Oman's embassies around the world, making it easier for them to obtain information or consular assistance when needed. It also helps citizens to register their data online when travelling, making it easier for the relevant authorities to follow up on them and provide assistance in case of emergency.
The launch of the new application reflects the ministry's strategy to modernise consular services and make them more efficient. By providing a unified digital platform, Omanis abroad can now complete their transactions easily.
The launch of the foreign ministry's e-services portal and smartphone application is a significant step in the Sultanate of Oman’s digital transformation journey and reflects the Omani government’s keenness to adopt the latest technologies to ensure the comfort and safety of citizens. This application is expected to contribute to enhancing confidence in consular services and make the experience of Omani citizens abroad smoother and safer, in line with Oman’s ambitious vision for digital transformation and achieving an integrated e-government.
