BAHLA: Under the auspices of Salim bin Mohammed al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, the second edition of the 'Bahla Fort Winter Festival' was inaugurated at the historic Bahla Fort and will continue until February 14, running daily from 4.00 pm to 10.00 pm.
This year’s edition comes with a renewed vision aimed at enhancing domestic tourism and promoting Omani culture among visitors. "The festival is one of the leading celebrations in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. It is an annual event that takes place at the Bahla Fort, serving as a tribute to the cultural and tourism heritage of the Wilayat of Bahla. The festival focuses on showcasing the historical, cultural, and touristic landmarks of Bahla Oasis and its historic fort, which is the first Unesco World Heritage site in Oman," said Ali bin Ahmed al Shaqsi, General Manager of Al Marasim Tourism and Investment Company, which oversees the management and operation of Bahla Fort.
The second edition of the festival aims to spread awareness of Oman’s rich heritage through Bahla Fort, offering a blend of entertainment, educational and cultural programmes. The festival will feature various activities and attractions that reflect Omani values and traditions. The open stage within the fort will host heritage performances, theatrical shows and entertainment competitions catering to different age groups. Additionally, artistic workshops and educational sessions will be held within the fort’s facilities.
One of the highlights of the festival is an interactive pottery-making experience designed for both adults and children, as well as a dedicated art workshop for girls.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore exhibitions featuring traditional crafts and handmade artefacts, showcasing Bahla’s crafts.
Moreover, the festival includes a vibrant marketplace offering local products such as silverware, perfumes, traditional clothing, incense and children's toys. A designated food and beverage area will feature traditional Omani cuisine, where visitors can watch local artisans demonstrate the art of making Omani Halwa.
Al Shaqsi emphasised that the festival represents a collaborative community effort, providing a platform for local families and small businesses to showcase and sell their products. He noted that supporting homegrown enterprises is a key aspect of the event, further contributing to the local economy.
During the opening ceremony, a visual presentation was showcased about the historic Bahla Grand Mosque and its readiness to welcome visitors. This was followed by patriotic performances of Al Hamasiyah art, presented by Mohammed al Shukaili with the participation of Fahm al Badi Al Hamasiyah band. The evening also featured a poem by the poet Ibrahim bin Ali al Shaibani, celebrating the rich heritage and civilisation of Oman.
This event is part of the Bahla Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum, in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s branch in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
