Oman to host 11th meeting of VLMG

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Civil Aviation Authority, is hosting the 11th meeting of the Virtual Laboratories Coordination Group for Centers of Excellence for Satellite Applications (VLMG-11) from January 20-23 at the CAA headquarters.


More than 35 representatives from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), satellite agencies, and centers of excellence for satellite applications are participating in the meeting, in the presence of the President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the President of the European Organization for Satellite Applications (EUMETSAT), and many officials from various relevant parties.


The meeting aims to discuss ways to enhance international cooperation in satellites and their applications, review the progress made in training programs, and discuss ways to cooperate with other training centers. In addition to exploring opportunities for cooperation, exchanging tools and expertise, and supporting the transition to modern satellite technologies in the member states of the World Meteorological Organization.


It will also include joint working sessions to develop future strategies for training activities, to improve the use of satellite products in protecting lives and property.


The meeting coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman's accession to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), as it officially joined the organization in 1975, which is headquartered in Geneva.


In addition, on February 11, 2006, the Center of Excellence for Training and Teaching Satellite Applications in the Field of Meteorology for West Asian and Middle Eastern Countries was inaugurated in cooperation with the Center for Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems at Sultan Qaboos University, the World Meteorological Organization and the European Organization for Satellite Applications.
