MUSCAT, JAN 14

Salalah powerhouse, Dhofar, defeated Seeb 3-2 to lift 2024-2025 Super Cup in a tight encounter at Al Rustaq Sports Complex on Tuesday. The victory means Dhofar's fifth Super Cup, which ended Seeb’s impressive 21-match unbeaten streak.

Masoud bin Said al Hashmi, Governor of Al Batinah South, the chief guest, presented the Cup to Dhofar Captain Salim al Nahar and medals to other players.

Both teams delivered a spirited performance in the match but Seeb dominated from the start as they were seeking for an early goal through applying pressure in the front line while Dhofar was in the defensive mode. Despite Seeb’s pressure, Dhofar’s striker Hamood al Saadi managed to break the deadlock after strong ball from Mohammed al Habsi but Seeb’s goalie Bilal al Balushi’s save was not in a proper way as the ball continued by Hamood’s header in the 23rd minute to the target taking the lead for his team.

After several scoring attempts, Seeb equalised three minutes later through a goal by Abdulrahman al Mushaifri who received a perfect cross from Zaher al Aghbari. Similar to the opening goal of Dhofar, Abdul Rahman continued the ball by header to the target. Rahman returned back again before the conclusion of the first half as he scored the second goal through a header again following a cross ball supplied by Al Aghbari in the 43rd minute. In the additional time of the opening half, the referee Omar al Yaqoobi awarded a penalty for Dhofar and it was converted to a goal by Hamed al Habsi in the 48th minute to end the opening half at 2-2 draw.

Dhofar came out strong in the second half as they managed to bounce back strongly by scoring their third goal through Sultan Badar in the 65th minute. It was a great effort by Hamed al Habsi who managed to penetrate through Seeb’s defenders and sent a ground pass to Sultan who converted to the net to lead his team by 3-2.

Seeb missed a golden opportunity to score the equaliser as Abdulaziz al Maqbali missed a penalty after his ball outside the net in the 70th minute. Seeb players worked hard in the remaining minutes to raise their efforts to bring the match into the origin point but they faced a strong defending line and the active goalkeeper Mazin al Kasbi in the back side. The referee Al Yaqoobi added nine minutes but with no change in the result as Dhofar confirmed their victory by 3-2.
