SUHAR, JAN 12
Coinciding with the celebrations of His Majesty’s accession to the throne, the second edition of the 'Experience South Al Batinah' festival was recently launched at Khabbat Al Qadaan in the Wilayat of Nakhal, in Al Batinah South Governorate. This event, which has attracted visitors from across Oman, is a remarkable blend of cultural heritage, sports competitions, consumer markets, and outdoor entertainment programmes tailored for all age groups.
Badr bin Mohammed al Saidi, General Director of Al Batinah South Municipality and the Chairman of the Organising Committee, stated that the festival’s main goal is to offer a unique experience that reflects Omani identity and culture. “This edition aims to showcase the governorate’s cultural and touristic richness while fostering community engagement through diverse activities,” he stated.
At the core of the festival lies the Heritage Village, which offers an exciting journey into Omani traditions. Visitors can explore handcrafted artefacts such as palm products, incense and embroidery, as well as traditional dishes that embody the Omani spirit. The village also features interactive workshops, teaching traditional arts and crafts, which have drawn significant interest from visitors of all ages.
The festival was influenced by Al Batinah South’s cool and pleasant weather that created a memorable experience for families and adventure enthusiasts. Activities include open-air cinemas, kite displays and a thrilling showcase of adventure vehicles against the backdrop of the governorate’s natural beauty.
Children have also found joy at a dedicated kids’ stage featuring games, competitions, and performances by cartoon characters. This lively atmosphere has become a magnet for families, adding a delightful dimension to the event.
The food court is another highlight, serving an array of dishes that cater to diverse tastes, including traditional Omani treats like halwa and sweet potatoes, which have won the hearts of attendees.
Dr Hiba al Balushi, head of the Omani Women’s Association in the Wilayat of Al Musannah and a key participant in the event, emphasised the importance of preserving Omani heritage. “This festival reflects the essence of our cultural identity, especially through the Heritage Village. These workshops are designed to ensure the younger generation understands and values the traditional crafts that are part of our national identity,” she said.
Running until the end of the month, 'Experience South Al Batinah' continues to attract visitors with its rich programmes. It serves as a platform to promote local talents, strengthen community roots, and highlight the governorate’s cultural and tourism potential.
