MUSCAT: The Ministry of Social Development has launched a series of impactful programmes and activities designed to uplift various segments of society, fostering a prosperous and cohesive community while supporting sustainable development goals. The ministry has been actively implementing initiatives to empower individuals and families, helping them achieve a decent standard of living. Programmes include social care, rehabilitation, and skills training aimed at enabling self-reliance and social integration. As part of its commitment to transparency and public engagement, the ministry also launched the marketing campaign ‘We Reach You,’ aligning its services with Oman’s digital transformation strategy. From January 2021 to June 2024, the ministry provided disaster assistance to 3,655 cases, amounting to RO 2.29 million. Additionally, temporary, emergency, and special cash assistance totalling RO 29.19 million was disbursed during the same period, supporting families and individuals facing hardship. The National Centre for Autism serves 221 individuals aged 2–30 years, offering behavioural therapy, speech therapy, vocational training, and recreational activities such as swimming and sports. Meanwhile, the government-run Al Wafa Centres for the Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities support 3,889 enrollees aged 2–14 across 41 centres nationwide. These centres provide comprehensive care, including education and awareness activities. Family guidance and counselling services reached 10,126 cases between January 2021 and June 2024, addressing social, economic, and psychological challenges. The ministry also oversees 355 nurseries that cater to children aged six months to three-and-a-half years, benefiting 8,706 boys and girls across Oman. The ‘Tamkeen’ programme targets individuals receiving social protection benefits, helping them transition into productive roles through training and employment opportunities. The ministry launched the ‘Joud’ digital donation platform, facilitating electronic contributions to registered charitable associations and volunteer teams. As of June 2024, the platform has registered 99 charitable teams, 30 charitable associations, and one government entity, reinforcing Oman’s culture of giving. Another initiative, the ‘Ta’heel’ platform, focuses on providing resources and facilities for people with disabilities and their families, streamlining the establishment of rehabilitation centres. Through programmes like the ‘Laboratory for Developing Services and Programmes for Persons with Disabilities,’ the ministry aligns its initiatives with the Oman Vision 2040 framework. The laboratory has launched over 30 projects, including initiatives for empowerment, sustainable financing, and enhanced health, education, and rehabilitation services for people with disabilities. These comprehensive efforts underline the Ministry of Social Development's unwavering commitment to building a more inclusive and supportive society. — ONA
