Muscat: Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services, has announced that it has been awarded the Owner’s Engineering Services contract by French multi-energy group TotalEnergies to provide project management linked to the development of solar and wind projects in the Sultanate of Oman.
Last month, the partnership of TotalEnergies (49 per cent) and OQ Alternative Energy (the green energy arm of Oman’s OQ Group, with a 51 per cent stake) signed agreements to develop around 300 MW of solar and wind energy projects in Oman. Green electricity output from these projects will be supplied to Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) under long-term power purchase agreements (PPA).
Of a total of three renewable energy projects covered by the PPAs with PDO, a 100 MW solar PV project, dubbed ‘North Solar’, will be established in Saih Nihaydah in northern Oman. Two other wind projects – Riyah-1 and Riyah-2, each of 100 MW capacity, are planned in Amin and West Nimr in southern Oman.
“This collaboration marks a significant step forward as we join forces on the Riyah-1 Wind Farm, Riyah-2 Wind Farm, and the North Oman Solar PV Plant,” said Khurram Majeed, Executive Vice President - Middle East, Caspian & Africa at Bureau Veritas Group.

Also as part of the Owner’s Engineering Services contract, Bureau Veritas will provide construction supervision, health and safety oversight, environmental compliance monitoring, claims management, and testing and inspection supervision, along with manufacturing quality control and assurance.
Construction work on the three projects is set to commence during the current quarter. When operational starting in Q4 2026, the projects will generate over 1.4 TWh of renewable electricity annually.
