Siu Hang, Jancarik and Koen advance to main draw

Muscat: Hong Kong paddler LAM Siu Hang Lubomir Jancarik from Czech Republic and Pang Koen from Singapore secured spots in the main draw of the WTT Contender Muscat 2025 following their two crucial wins on the opening day of the WTT Contender Muscat 2025 which is underway at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


Lam, World No 134, began his campaign in the men’s singles as he beat Jan Valenta from Czech Republic 3-0 (11-9, 11-9, 11-2). In the following match in the evening session of the day, he managed to top the Group 11 by snatching a 3-1 win over Taiwo Mati from Nigeria (11-9, 13-11, 7-11, 11-9).



Lubomir started his way in the world class event by an essential victory over Oman’s Muhannad al Balushi by 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-5) and then against Iran’s Hamid Shamas Sharbabki by 3-1 (8-11, 11-3, 11-8, 11-2). Pang Koen from Singapore kicked off his matches in the opening session on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Iran’s Hamid Shamas Sharbabki as the sets ended at 11-8, 13-11, 13-11 and then against Oman’s Muhannad al Balushi by 3-0 (11-3, 11-3, 16-14).


WTT Contender Muscat 2025 is underway at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex as the competitions of the preliminary rounds are heating up. All the paddlers are looking to secure their slots for the main draw which will start on Tuesday.



In the women’s singles preliminary rounds, Chinese Taipei's Chen Min-Hsin advanced to the next stage as she managed to earn two triumphs in the Group 12. The 15-year-old player won against Andeea Dragoman from Romania by 3-1 (11-6, 11-8, 11-13, 11-4). In the following match, she won the game against NG Wing by 3-0.


This edition of the 2025 WTT contender Muscat is featuring of 200 participants representing more than 30 countries including: Australia, Maldives, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Nigeria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Slovakia, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkey, the United States, Wales, Singapore and the host nation, the Sultanate of Oman.



The seven days event is organised by Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) in coordination with World Table Tennis (WTT) and will conclude on Friday, January 17. The event offered a total cash prize of $80,000 for the top winners in five disciplines including men’s and women’s singles/doubles and mixed doubles.
