Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik addressed the nation on the occasion of the Accession Day.
His Majesty declared that November 20 of each year will be the National Day of the Sultanate of Oman.
"It is with great pleasure that we honor our ancestors, the Sultans, recall a glorious day in the history of Oman, and announce on this occasion that the 20th November of each year will be a national day for the Sultanate of Oman, the day on which the Al Busaidi family was honored to serve this dear country since 1744 at the hands of the founding Imam, Sayyid Ahmed bin Said al Busaidi, who unified the banner of the Omani nation and led its struggle and great sacrifices for the sake of complete sovereignty over the land of Oman and freedom and dignity for its honorable sons. After him came great Sultans carried its banner with all courage and competence and completed its victorious march with all determination and resolve," the statement said.
