The Oman Basketball Association celebrated the crowning of winners in the Sohar Festival 3x3 Basketball Championship for men and juniors, organised by the association in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North at the Sohar Entertainment Centre. The 'DX' team clinched the men's championship title, while the 'MKSR' team secured the under-17 junior championship title.
The tournament saw the participation of 15 teams, with eight teams competing in the men's category and seven teams in the junior category. The matches were filled with excitement and fierce competition, featuring players from clubs and national teams, adding vibrancy and enthusiasm to the event.
In the men's Sohar Festival 3x3 Basketball Championship, the 'DX' team claimed the title and gold medals, followed by Dhofar, who earned the runners-up position and silver medals. The 'Old is Gold' team secured third place and bronze medals. In the juniors' under-17 category, the 'MKSR' team emerged as champions and received gold medals, while the 'Leborn Lovers' team came in second with silver medals, and the 'Muscat Lovers' team secured third place with bronze medals.
After the competitions concluded, Eng Ali al Muqbali, Assistant Director-General of Financial and Administrative Affairs in the Governorate of Al Batinah North, awarded the winning teams in the presence of Said al Habsi, Acting Secretary-General of the Oman Basketball Association.
Said al Habsi emphasised the importance of the championship in promoting the spread of basketball in the Sultanate of Oman. He stated: "Through organising such tournaments, we aim to provide a competitive platform for players, offering them opportunities to gain experience and exposure. The 3x3 basketball format is an Olympic sport that enjoys growing global popularity, and we strive to develop it locally."
He added: "The success witnessed today at the Sohar Festival is evidence of the significant interest in the sport, both from participating teams and the audience. This underscores the importance of continuing efforts to attract and nurture talent by organising more tournaments across Oman's governorates."
In conclusion, Al Habsi extended his gratitude to the Office of the Governor of Al Batinah North for their support, as well as to the organisers and participating teams for their efforts in making the championship a success. He affirmed that the association plans to host more events to achieve a qualitative leap in basketball in Oman. This championship is part of the Oman Basketball Association's strategy to promote the sport and enhance its position as an Olympic discipline. It aims to create a sustainable competitive environment that helps players develop their skills and gain more exposure through a series of events planned by the association this year to support basketball in Oman.
