The Omani Haj Mission under the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs (MoARA) has begun to notify those who are eligible for the 1446 AH Haj.
Those who are eligible, according to the selection, must get in touch with the approved Haj companies and pay 50 per cent of the contract value.
Speaking to the Observer, Abdulaziz bin Masoud al Ghafri, Deputy Chief of the Mission for the Affairs of Pilgrims and Haj Campaigns, said that as many as 14,000 applicants are selected to perform Haj this year and those selected are being informed for further documentations.
Out of the 14,000 of the total applicants who were selected to perform Haj this year, as many as 6,683 would be men constituting 49 per cent of the total and 6,903 women. Nearly 32.3 per cent of the beneficiaries are 46-60 years old, 42.4 per cent are 31-45 years old and 20 per cent older than 60 years.
"Preference for Haj were given to cancer patients, people with chronic diseases and aged people who have not performed Haj before," Al Ghafri said.
To facilitate the Haj process, the ministry had formed the Oman Haj Mission with Ahmed bin Ali al Kaabi as the Deputy Chief of the Mission for Administrative and Financial Affairs and Abdulaziz bin Masoud al Ghafri as Deputy Chief of the Mission for the Affairs of Pilgrims and Haj Campaigns.
Oman has a quota of 14,000 pilgrims each year and the electronic registration sorts those eligible according to specific criteria that take into account the priority of eligibility. The system is characterised by transparency and speed in showing the results and sending messages to the eligible ones. This step facilitates early preparation and selection for the citizens and residents who intend to perform the Haj and to choose companies specialised in operating Haj missions.
