MUSCAT: The Social Protection Fund serves as a cornerstone in balancing economic growth with social welfare in the Sultanate of Oman, continuously expanding its services to cover broader segments of society. It plays a vital role in achieving Oman Vision 2040, which emphasizes sustainability, social justice, and institutional innovation, reflecting the commitment of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to enhance social security and improve citizens’ quality of life.
Since its establishment, the Fund has worked with partners to build a comprehensive system aimed at sustainable development and societal well-being. Guided by its vision of ensuring a dignified life for all, the Fund provides extensive social protection for various population groups.
The Social Protection Law aligns with national priorities and international best practices, designed as a sustainable, efficient, and just framework to safeguard the rights of both current and future generations. In 2024, the Fund achieved remarkable milestones, supporting over 1.5 million beneficiaries across various social benefits:
Childhood benefit: Over 1.23 million Omani children up to age 18.
Elderly benefit: More than 167,000 beneficiaries.
Disability benefit: Over 42,000 individuals.
Orphans and widows benefit: Exceeded 16,500 beneficiaries.
Family income support: Targeted low-income groups, bridging income gaps under legal regulations.
Insurance coverage also expanded significantly, with over 260,000 insured in the private sector and 195,000 in the government sector. Self-employed individuals reached 121,457, while insured Omanis working abroad totaled 7,261.
In investment performance, the Fund achieved a 99.8% asset transfer completion rate by October 2024, reflecting effective resource management and exceeding targets for investment returns.
The Fund made strides in digital transformation, achieving a 63% implementation rate with 20 digital projects in its 2024-2025 plan. Integration with 12 government institutions enhanced operational efficiency, earning the Fund the Best Government Digital Transformation Team Award.
International recognition further underscored its impact, including the Asia-Pacific Best Practices Award from the International Social Security Association, alongside eight certificates of merit for projects enhancing institutional efficiency and services.
