MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MoHT), the Ministry of Information, Muscat Municipality, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), and the governorate offices across the Sultanate of Oman, will launch the Discounts and Offers Festival under the slogan ‘Oman Celebrates’ on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
The event, held under the auspices of Faisal bin Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will run from January 11 to February 11, 2025. It aims to stimulate economic and commercial activity in the Sultanate of Oman, showcase the strength of the national economy, and encourage local and international investments by fostering public-private partnerships and supporting commercial establishments in offering competitive discounts that benefit all segments of society.
Nasra bint Sultan al Habsiyah, Director-General of Commerce, stated that the launch of the Discounts and Offers Festival comes in celebration of the anniversary of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik's accession to power. It emphasizes the private sector's role as a key partner in the renewed renaissance Oman is experiencing under His Majesty’s leadership. The initiative highlights the private sector’s leadership role in creating a competitive economy aligned with global markets, under Oman Vision 2040. The festival aims to boost economic and commercial activity, double trade movements in Oman, provide essential products at affordable prices for all social groups and support shopping centres and leading brands to increase their sales.
Al Habsi explained that the festival would significantly stimulate shopping activities and enhance consumption within the Sultanate of Oman, positively impacting Oman’s competitive business environment— one of the ministry’s strategic objectives aligned with Oman Vision 2040. She added that the festival’s inclusivity across all governorates of Oman ensures another key goal: fostering the economic growth of governorates by sustaining and developing private sector institutions within them. The festival targets consumers from all social groups, including citizens, residents, commercial establishments, malls, major stores, e-commerce platforms, and entrepreneurs, to enhance their role in economic activities.
The festival will include discounts of no less than 50 percent for malls and major companies, 30 percent for other establishments, and daily or weekly prizes for consumers, totaling no fewer than 30 prizes. It also encourages participation from all governorates.
The national campaign was first launched last year on January 11, 2024. It targeted all consumer, food, hospitality, and other sectors, with 320 commercial establishments participating in Muscat Governorate alone.
Similar to the ‘Oman Celebrates’ campaign by MoCIIP, the 'Made in Oman' campaign supports national goals of economic growth and self-sufficiency. It promotes Omani products, boosts consumer confidence in their quality, and highlights the diversity of local industries, fostering a strong national identity.
The campaign enhances communication between producers and consumers, promotes the national product identity logo as a symbol of trust and encourages businesses to obtain the logo license. These efforts strengthen the reputation of Omani products and align with Oman Vision 2040 by driving industrial growth, innovation, and reduced import dependency.
