TEHRAN: The Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran have underscored the importance of consolidating cooperation and partnership in various fields, such as economy, trade, energy, transport, tourism and other areas.
This took place during a joint press conference held in Tehran on Monday by Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, and Dr Abbas Araqchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Sayyid Badr said that the two sides agreed to take practical steps to enhance trade and investment ties, augment the volume of inter-trade, and facilitate transport, shipping and travel. He also underscored the importance of cooperation in establishing projects related to food security and health.
Sayyid Badr pointed out that the press conference also discussed regional and international developments. It stressed the need to step up diplomatic efforts and enhance the mechanisms of constructive dialogue to address the current challenges facing the region, he added.
The Foreign Minister also said that the two sides agreed to focus on finding sustainable solutions to regional conflicts, without prejudice to the sovereignty of countries and non-interference in their internal affairs, noting that the overall aim is to boost the stability of the region and ensure the realisation of lasting peace.
Sayyid Badr affirmed that the Palestinian cause figured highly in the press conference, which, he said, laid emphasis on backing the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights and their aspirations for freedom, independence, security and peace. The two sides also underlined the importance of respecting the national sovereignty of Syria and Lebanon and supporting efforts for establishing stability and development.
For his part, Dr Abbas commended the Sultanate of Oman’s constructive role in enhancing regional stability and deepening bilateral and international cooperation.
At the conclusion of the press conference, the two ministers agreed to pursue communication and joint coordination on various issues, achieve common interests, and enhance peace and stability in the region and the world at large.
REVIEWS PROGRESS:
Earlier, Sayyid Badr met with Abbas Araqchi for a meeting during which the two ministers reviewed the progress of bilateral relations and explored ways to enhance them in various fields to serve joint interests. They also discussed several regional and international developments, including the Palestinian cause and the situation in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon and Syria.
The two foreign ministers underscored the importance of efforts aimed at enhancing stability and supporting political initiatives to achieve security and peace for the region as a whole. The meeting was attended by Shaikh Ahmed bin Hashel al Maskari, Head of the GCC Department at the Foreign Ministry; Ibrahim bin Ahmed al Muaini, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Islamic Republic of Iran; and several officials from both sides.
