Private health forum calls for stronger PPP

MUSCAT: The third annual forum for private health institutions concluded with a call to strengthen partnerships between the Ministry of Health and private sector entities. The forum emphasised activating permanent communication channels to exchange expertise and information, aiming to bolster the private healthcare sector as a strategic partner in Oman’s national health system.


Organised by the Ministry of Health through its General Directorate of Private Health Institutions, the event focused on fostering institutional excellence. Key recommendations included establishing clear standards for recognising outstanding health institutions, enhancing medical waste disposal systems to align with global environmental conservation standards, and promoting complementary medicine to improve patient care and quality of life.


Dr Ahmed bin Salim al Mandhari, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Organisation, highlighted the private health sector's pivotal role in achieving sustainable health development. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment that would elevate the overall quality of life in Oman.


The forum featured robust preparatory sessions with experts and private health representatives from across the governorates. Discussions addressed key challenges facing the private health sector, proposing innovative solutions to enhance transparency, improve control systems and establish clear performance evaluation criteria.



Some of the main themes included launching mechanisms to honour distinguished health institutions, fostering innovation and competitiveness, enhancing the quality of health services while ensuring patient safety, developing robust evaluation and control mechanisms to uphold the highest performance standards and safely managing medical waste to protect the environment and public health.


Serving as a critical platform for public-private collaboration, the forum showcased achievements and identified challenges in the private health sector. It underscored a shared commitment to driving transformative improvements in Oman’s healthcare landscape, reflecting the nation’s aspirations for a healthier future.
