MUSCAT: As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Gulf and regional cooperation in the energy sector, the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), participated in the 61st meeting of the Advisory and Regulatory Committee of the GCC Interconnection Authority, hosted by Qatar. The Omani delegation was led by Dr Mansour bin Talib al Hinai, Chairman of the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) and Head of the Basic Services Sector.
The meeting addressed a range of strategic topics, including the performance and technical activities of the Gulf electricity grid, as well as approved amendments to the General Agreement and the Agreement for Energy Exchange and Trade.
Discussions also encompassed mechanisms for determining additional linkage fees for energy trade between member states and external parties, setting minimum charges for the rights to use the additional interconnection for trade among GCC countries, and reviewing updates on the expansion projects of the Gulf electricity grid.
These efforts align with broader initiatives aimed at advancing economic integration and sustainable energy development across the GCC, contributing to comprehensive growth and reinforcing regional cooperation in the energy sector.
