Nizwa: In a significant achievement, the restoration of the famous Sur Al Aqr (Al Aqr Wall) in the Wilayat of Nizwa has reached a major milestone with the completion of the third phase.
This phase, which restored 275 metres of the wall, was officially opened in a ceremony attended by Eng Ahmed bin Saleh al Rashdi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs.
Suleiman bin Mohammed al Sulaimani emphasised that this phase builds on the earlier phases completed earlier this year. The newly restored section spans 275 metres, starting from Harat Al Zamma Tower and ending at Qassam Orchard. Notably, a 75-metre entrance has been built, ensuring accessibility for people with special needs and families with strollers.
The restoration was completed over four months with a focus on creating accessible pathways and installing an electric elevator, which will be operational in the next phase. The project’s broader goal is to restore the entire 2,000-metre length of the wall. To date, about 700 metres have been restored, including key landmarks such as Sabkha Gate and several towers.
The project has significant cultural and tourism value, with plans to further enhance the area’s infrastructure, including paving neighbourhood alleys, installing surveillance and extending essential services.
The work was completed in cooperation with Bawareq Nizwa International Company, the real estate developer.
