Oman’s international referee Qasim al Hatmi delivered an outstanding performance in the Saudi Arabia clash against Yemen on Wednesday night as part of the underway 26th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup in Kuwait. The match ended for Saudi Arabia as they managed to register a strong comeback from 2-0 down to a 3-2 win over fighting Yemen team.
Al Hatmi was the main referee in the game while he was assisted by two Omani umpires in the lines including Nasser Salim Ambosaidi and Hamed al Ghafri while UAE’s referee Omar al Ali as fourth referee. The Video Assistant Referee 'VAR' umpiring comprised UAE referee Mohammed Obaid as main umpire while Abdullah al Jamali from Kuwait as assistant.
Despite the different scenarios happened during the match, the Omani referee managed to lead and officiate the match on a bright note without major mistakes. The match saw five goals in total including two goals from Yemeni side and three goals from the Saudi players. In the 52nd minute, referee Qasim returned back to VAR to confirm the penalty of Saudi Arabia after the ball touched Yemen’s defender Ridwan al Hubaishi.
Al Qasmi, who hails from Ibri, showed several yellow cards and two red cards during the match. The first red card was for Rami al Wasmani as he received two yellow cards through the encounter while the following red card shown for Hamzah Sabah, but it was cancelled after consulting the VAR.
The 34-year-old referee received the international badge in the 2016 and he had officiated one match in the AFC Asian qualifiers for Fifa World Cup and several matches at the Asian continent level including two times at the AFC Champions League Elite.
