Heavy rains are expected on Thursday morning in the governorates of Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South and Muscat. Due to this forecast, the Ministry of Education has decided to shift morning classes (both in government and private schools) to distance learning in the wilayats of Al Khabourah, Al Suwaiq, Barka and Al Musannah.
As of the time of writing this report, there have been reports of moderate rains and flowing wadis in the Musandam Governorate and parts of the Al Hajar Mountains.
Temperatures have also dropped in the mountain tops, with Jabal Shams recording a maximum of eight degrees Celsius and a minimum of two degrees. Saiq is also one of the coldest places in the country.
Night temperatures have dropped to under 20 degrees Celsius in many wilayats, including Salalah, Nizwa, Al Amerat, Khasab, Haima, Bahla and Sur, among others.
The Civil Aviation Authority has advised everyone to take precautions and avoid crossing wadis or going to the sea, as thunderstorms are expected on Thursday morning.
Heavy rains are expected due to the clouds accompanying the air trough on Thursday morning in the coastal areas of the governorates of Al Batinah North, Al Batinah South and Muscat.
There are also chances of rain in the governorates of Musandam, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah North and Al Sharqiyah South, with rainfall amounts ranging from 5-15 mm.
The height of sea waves on all coasts of the Sultanate of Oman will be between 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Low horizontal visibility is also expected during thunderstorms. Other alerts include active downward winds with speeds ranging between 15 to 35 knots (28 - 64 km/h).
