MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Oman Chess Committee (OCC), is preparing to host the Muscat International Chess Championship 2024, one of the most prominent events in the chess world. The championship will kick off on Tuesday, December 24, and continue until December 31, featuring extensive international participation with 200 players from 22 countries, underscoring its status as one of the leading tournaments on the global stage.


The championship boasts strong participation from international grandmasters, with 29 titled players competing, adding a highly competitive and prestigious dimension to the event. The tournament will follow the Swiss system over nine rounds, with a time control of 90 minutes per player plus a 30-second increment per move, ensuring high-level matches and intense competition among participants.


The Muscat International Chess Championship presents a unique opportunity for both professional and amateur players worldwide to compete in an exceptional sporting atmosphere. It also highlights Oman’s role in supporting mind sports and elevating its global standing in chess while contributing to the development of local talent.

The championship will open with an official ceremony on December 24, attended by prominent sports and media figures, marking the start of this major event. The organising committee aims to deliver an exceptional tournament in terms of both organisation and technical level, with expectations of thrilling competitions until the final rounds and widespread attention from chess enthusiasts around the world.
