BAGHDAD: Oman and Iraq affirmed the depth of their historical ties during a joint press conference on Sunday, marking the conclusion of the ninth session of the Omani-Iraqi Joint Committee in Baghdad.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister of Oman, and Dr Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, emphasised the significance of their cooperation and coordination on regional and international matters aimed at promoting security and stability.
Both ministers expressed a shared commitment to deepening their bilateral relations and pursuing greater cooperation in various fields to support the aspirations of both countries toward a prosperous future.
Meanwhile, earlier Sayyid Badr met here with Mahmoud al Mashhadani, Speaker of Iraq's Council of Representatives. The meeting comes as part of the Foreign Minister’s official visit to the Republic of Iraq.
The meeting reviewed the depth of fraternal relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq, as well as ways of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides stressed the importance of continuous communication among legislative institutions in supporting common causes in a bid to achieve stability and sustainable development in the region.
The meeting affirmed the historical ties between the two peoples. It also underscored the commitment of both sides with mutual action to serve bilateral interests. — ONA
