MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Belarus are taking significant steps to bolster economic ties and develop partnerships across key sectors, including clean energy, tourism, technology, transportation, logistics and industry, among others.

Sergey Terentiev, the non-resident Ambassador of Belarus to Oman, described the recent official visit of President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus to Oman as both pivotal and productive. He emphasised that the visit underscored Oman’s potential to become a regional hub for Belarusian producers and joint products with various global partners.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency (ONA), Ambassador Terentiev remarked, “We are tasked with creating a comprehensive road map for bilateral relations across all sectors to enhance trade volumes and expand cooperation, particularly in the industrial sector.” He noted, however, that current economic relations between the two nations have not yet reached the levels their respective competitive advantages could support.

The Ambassador highlighted numerous investment opportunities, including the transfer of technology from Belarus to Oman, the establishment of joint factories and projects, and the development of transportation and logistics networks. He also underscored Oman’s strategic location as a gateway to new markets. Additionally, he revealed plans for Belarus to introduce charter flights to Oman, which aim to foster stronger tourism links between the two countries.

Ambassador Terentiev called on Oman’s private sector to explore investment opportunities in Belarus, especially in technology-driven industries and joint market ventures. He expressed aspirations to attract Belarusian industrial and technological investments to Oman, paving the way for collaborative projects in these fields.

On the sidelines of President Lukashenko’s visit, the two nations signed a road map for agricultural cooperation. This agreement is expected to unlock opportunities for private sector collaboration in areas such as food security, agricultural technology transfer and related fields. Furthermore, memorandums of understanding were signed in the areas of industry and standardisation, which will enable mutual recognition of standards, enhance quality assurance and streamline the movement of goods and services between the two countries.

The Ambassador also announced the establishment of a joint Oman-Belarus committee to further strengthen economic and trade ties. The committee will serve as a platform to facilitate mutual business opportunities, with active participation from the private sectors of both nations, ensuring greater collaboration and sustainable growth. — ONA
