Muscat: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, presided over the award ceremony of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature in its tenth and eleventh editions for the years 2023 and 2024, at the Al Wahat Club in Muscat Governorate, on Wednesday.
Dr Abdullah bin Khamis al Kindi won the award for culture in the field of media and communication studies for the tenth edition. Dr Wasini al Araj won the award for literature in the field of novel while the award in the field of film directing was withheld.
In the eleventh edition, dedicated to Omani nationals, the podcast programme Witness Beyond the Ordinary by Ahmed bin Salem al Kalbani won the award in the field of radio programmes in the Arts branch. Poet Shumisa bint Abdullah al Numaniyah won the award in the field of classical Arabic poetry in the Literature branch for her collection Maqamat Zulaykha. The award for studies in the Omani environment in the Culture branch was withheld.
Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Chairman of the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science, delivered a speech in which he explained the objectives of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature and reviewed its beginnings and its journey over the past years.
During the ceremony, two visual films of the tenth and the eleventh editions of the Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature were screened highlighting details of nominations for the award and the methods followed by the committees. At the end of the ceremony, Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Governor of Muscat, chief guest, announced the award’s fields of the twelfth edition 2025, dedicated to Arabs namely: the field of private cultural institutions in the culture branch, the field of sculpture in the arts branch and the field of biographies in the literature branch.
The total number of candidates who met the nomination requirements in the tenth edition reached 171 candidates, including 30 candidates in media and communication studies in the culture branch, 25 candidates in film directing in the arts branch and 161 candidates in the novel category. — ONA
