The Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee, affiliated with the League of Arab States, and the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions have commended the efforts of Oman Human Rights Commission (OHRC).
In this context, Counsellor Jaber bin Saleh al Marri, Chair of the Arab Charter Committee, stated that Oman Human Rights Commission had submitted its parallel report to the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee. The report was based on documented facts gathered through monitoring activities, complaint handling, and the collection of data and statistics in cooperation with various stakeholders. The report was distinguished by its high level of independence and objectivity, transparently and clearly reflecting the challenges and achievements in the field of human rights in the Sultanate of Oman.
Al Marri added that Oman Human Rights Commission demonstrated effective cooperation during the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee's visit to Oman. During this visit, the Committee reviewed the developments in Oman’s human rights framework at the legislative, institutional and policy levels, as well as the practices adopted to protect and promote human rights.
In a related context, a delegation from Oman Human Rights Commission, headed by Prof Rashid bin Hamad al Balushi, Chairman of the Commission, participated in the 26th Session of the Arab Charter on Human Rights Committee, held at the League of Arab States in Cairo. The Session was dedicated to discussing the Sultanate of Oman’s first report.
The two-day session’s agenda covered several topics related to the provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights. The discussions witnessed fruitful interaction, with inquiries from the Committee’s experts and responses from the Omani delegation.
Additionally, the Arab Charter Committee held a special hearing with Oman Human Rights Commission to explore its views on matters related to the Charter’s provisions and the submitted report.
The delegation of Oman Human Rights Commission included: Ahmed bin Abdullah al Owaisi, a member of the Commission, Aida bint Shamis al Hashmiyah, a member of the Commission, Abdulaziz bin Ali al Saadi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department, and Iman bint Khalid al Saeediyah, Head of the International Relations Department at the Commission.
