Muscat: The 41st Conference of the Arab Organisation of University Admissions and Registration in Arab Countries, which kicked off on Monday, explores the role of AI in enhancing admission and registration procedures.
As many as 30 scientific papers will be presented during the conference, with the participation of 150 experts from Oman and beyond.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
The 3-day conference discusses moral and regulatory challenges related to the use of AI technologies, as well as the role of technology in developing admission and registration systems.
Furthermore, the conference covers the topic of utilising technology to support students with disabilities and to enhance the use of AI in universities.
The conference aims to discuss a set of key issues related to admissions and registration processes in Arab universities, with a focus on investing in modern technology, especially artificial intelligence including improving the quality of operations using artificial intelligence technologies, ethical challenges and legislation required to use artificial intelligence in education and anticipating the future of admissions and registration systems and developing them using technology.
This is in addition to integrating and supporting students with special needs through technology, using artificial intelligence to provide individual academic and psychological consultations as well as dealing with international students and reviewing best practices to enhance their academic experience.
Dr Ali bin Saud al Bimani, President of the National University of Science and Technology, expressed his pride in hosting this qualitative conference in the Sultanate of Oman for the first time. He said: “We are pleased to be part of this prominent event that brings together experts and admission and registration officials from Arab universities. The conference comes at a time when there is an increasing need to explore the role of technology and artificial intelligence in improving academic processes and meeting the requirements of modern education. We hope that the outcomes of this conference will contribute to advancing the wheel of development in Arab universities.”
The conference represents an opportunity for Arab universities to keep pace with modern technological developments, which enhances the efficiency of academic processes and keeps pace with the rapid changes in higher education. With the Sultanate of Oman hosting this event for the first time, attention is turning to its role as a regional platform for launching initiatives that improve the quality of higher education and expand the horizons of cooperation between Arab universities.
