MUSCAT: The Maidan of Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) had different sets of drums, and for about 10 minutes a set of drummers of ‘Sword of Wisdom’ created an unforgettable experience for the spectators and the members of the media. They will be officially performing on Thursday and Friday, December 19th and 20th. They have performed in about 40 countries and 100 cities. “Muscat is a beautiful country, and all the buildings are white, and it is like a painting. Oman and its people are open and kind; we feel great to be back again,” said the founder of the group, U Theatre. “We are excited to bring our production here. Symbolically, the sword faces oneself, and it cleanses. Theatre Royal Opera has stated that ‘Sword of Wisdom’ features awe-inspiring drumming, martial arts, acrobatic excellence, and dynamic percussion theatre. This is Taiwan’s extraordinary U-Theatre and the 28-member team. The members have training for 10 to 20 years, and the youngest has an explained the founder of the production group, Liu Ruo-Yu.
“The team will narrate the compelling story of the ‘Brave One’ as he faces his fear of the unknown, digs deep to find the courage to face these fears, and searches for the wisdom to use the ‘sword,’ a metaphor for courage, in the right way,” explained the director, Huang Chih-Chun. The director, an expert in martial arts, also explained the importance of meditation. The U-Theatre has a unique approach to productions, with training methods rooted in meditation and inspired by nature, undertaken high up in the mountains above Taipei. “There are no houses on top of the mountains, so the members commute daily for the training,” said Liu Ruo-Yu. The aesthetic beauty of their performances has long been associated with excellence. “We have the martial arts, the meditation, and the modern performing arts integrated, and you will see that in ‘Sword of Wisdom.’ U Theatre is a performing arts group based in Taiwan, founded in 1988 by Liu Ruo-Yu on Mount Laochuan in the Muzha District of Taipei. In 1993, Huang Chih-Chun joined the group as the percussion director. While speaking to Observer, he stressed the need for meditation. The group's training core combines elements such as meditation, martial arts, and drumming, incorporating physical training, traditional martial arts, drumming, Tai Chi, Chinese opera, religious rituals and Jing Zuo.
