In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral trade relations and exploring investment opportunities, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted the Oman-Japan Business Forum at its headquarters in Muscat. Under the theme “Towards New Business Partnerships,” the event brought together high-ranking officials, including the Japanese Ambassador to Oman, Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas, Chairman of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and a host of business leaders from both nations.
The forum provided a platform to foster dialogue, share innovative ideas and explore joint ventures in critical economic sectors. It also underscored Oman’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation as part of its Vision 2040 road map for economic diversification and sustainability.
At the heart of the forum were discussions centred on vital sectors that are pivotal to Oman’s economic development. These included: Energy, Mining, Real Estate Development, Healthcare, Industry, Technology, Logistics, Hospitality and Green Hydrogen.
These sectors align with Oman’s diversification priorities, offering opportunities for Japanese businesses to bring their technological expertise and innovative solutions to Oman’s market. The discussions highlighted the potential for mutual benefits through strategic collaborations in areas such as renewable energy, sustainable development and advanced logistics.
The Oman-Japan Business Forum not only reaffirmed the strong trade relations between the two countries but also opened new avenues for cooperation. OCCI Chairman Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas emphasised the significance of the forum, stating:
“We are honoured to welcome the esteemed delegation from the Center for Japanese Cooperation in the Middle East, accompanied by representatives from leading Japanese companies. This visit reflects the deep and enduring ties between Oman and Japan, built on mutual respect and shared ambitions for progress.”
He further highlighted Oman’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, presenting it as an opportunity for Japanese firms to collaborate in fields like climate technology, wastewater management and digital solutions.
Additionally, the Chairman pointed to Oman’s participation in Expo 2025 in Osaka as a chance to showcase the nation’s achievements and innovative partnerships on a global stage.
For many Omani business leaders, the forum served as a valuable opportunity to engage with Japanese counterparts and explore potential collaborations. Prominent Omani businessman Mazin Salim al Rahbi, active in the construction sector and other industries, shared his thoughts on the event.
“The Japanese delegation introduced advanced technologies, particularly in infrastructure, water management and waste management. These innovations are exactly what Oman needs to address its development priorities,” Al Rahbi remarked.
He noted that the technologies and proposals from Japanese firms align seamlessly with the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which focuses on sustainable economic growth and innovation.
“This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen bilateral cooperation,” Al Rahbi added, expressing enthusiasm about expanding his own business ventures into new industries through partnerships with Japanese firms.
