At the recently concluded Specialist Environmental Camp in North Al Batinah, the spotlight was firmly on the captivating exhibit “Feathered Creatures Through the Lens of Environmental Pioneers.” Held at City Centre Sohar and under the patronage of His Highness Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, the exhibition celebrated the remarkable avian diversity that Oman has to offer, showcasing the country as a vital habitat for numerous bird species.
Oman is home to over 450 bird species, including both migratory and resident populations. The exhibit featured stunning photographs that illustrated the beauty and uniqueness of these birds, including the endangered Arabian Oryx. This visual narrative not only captivated visitors but also served as a powerful reminder of the fragile ecosystems that support these species.
“Feathered Creatures Through the Lens of Environmental Pioneers” is part of the Environmental Authority's mission to raise awareness about wildlife conservation. Alongside the exhibit, the camp offered various programmes focused on environmental protection, including workshops on birdwatching, presentations by wildlife experts on habitat preservation, and discussions about the impact of climate change on local bird populations. Participants engaged in interactive activities aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the necessary steps communities can take to protect their natural environment.
In addition to the focus on avian life, the camp highlighted the importance of biodiversity as a whole, emphasising Oman’s unique ecosystems that include desert, coastal, and mountain environments. Educational sessions about the interdependence of species within these habitats showcased how each organism plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance.
While “Feathered Creatures” stood out as the highlight of the event, the overall initiative aligned with the Environmental Authority's broader goals. H.E. Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi praised the Authority's efforts to promote environmental consciousness. “Such exhibits encourage the community to engage actively in the protection of our natural heritage,” he said.
The camp received enthusiastic feedback for its innovative approach to connecting the public with wildlife through art and education. The Environmental Authority affirmed its commitment to continuing similar initiatives throughout Oman, aiming to inspire future generations to value and protect the nation’s rich environmental legacy.
