MUSCAT: Oman’s national beach soccer team has been seeded into the first pot ahead of the AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup Thailand 2025 draw, which will take place on Thursday. The 16 confirmed teams have been distributed into four pots based on their final ranking from the 2023 tournament, where applicable, with Thailand seeded first as the host association. Oman is in the same pot as joint-record three-time champions Iran, Japan and the hosts, Thailand.
The United Arab Emirates heads pot two alongside Kuwait, Bahrain and China. Pot 3 features Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Afghanistan and Malaysia, while Indonesia is allocated in pot 4 alongside India, Iraq, and Vietnam.
The AFC Beach Soccer Asian Cup draw will be unveiled at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. Thailand will host the event for the third time, and this edition of the tournament will feature 16 teams, all vying for the title at Jomtien Beach in Pattaya from March 20 to 30, 2025.
The 16 participating teams will be distributed into four groups, and the top two finishers from each group will advance to the knockout stage. The event will act as a qualifier for the Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup, with the top three teams securing their berths at the 2025 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup in Seychelles.
Oman’s national beach soccer team previously won the 2015 AFC Beach Soccer Championship, hosted at Katara Beach in Qatar. In the final, Oman defeated Japan to be crowned champions, and both teams, along with third-place Iran, qualified for the 2015 Fifa Beach Soccer World Cup.
