Oman begin preparations for Gulf Cup with domestic camp

The Red Warriors kicked off their preparations for the upcoming Arabian Gulf Cup on Wednesday at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.


Oman head coach Rasheed Jaber called upon his players for the first training session as part of their domestic training camp as they aim for their third title in the region’s most prestigious football competition. The 26th Arabian Gulf Cup is scheduled to take place in Kuwait from December 21 to January 3.


On Thursday, the domestic camp featured 31 probables with the final list of 25 to be decided after their warm-up game against Yemen at home on December 16.


Jaber put his wards to rigorous training session on Wednesday with emphasis on technical and tactical sessions while the support staff focused on the fitness front.


The camp featured players who returned to squad after injury like Salah al Yahyaei, defender Amjad al Harthy and Waleed al Musallami, who impressed with their recent performances in domestic league.


Oman will depart for Kuwait on Monday with the delegation to be headed by OFA vice-chairman Mohsin al Masroori.


Oman have been drawn into Group A alongside hosts Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. Group B comprises defending champions Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Yemen.


The Red Warriors will begin their campaign against Kuwait on December 21, followed by matches against Qatar on December 24 and the UAE on December 27.
