Muscat: A 4.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Arabian Sea at 11:49 am (local time) on Thursday, the Earthquake Monitoring Centre (EMC) reported.
In an online statement, EMC confirmed the quake occurred 661 km southeast of Muscat, 635 km northeast of Salalah, and 311 km from Masirah Island. The tremor was registered at a depth of 17.1 km.
Meanwhile, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck Iran's Khuzestan Province on the same day, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake injured at least 15 people but caused no damage to the province's oil infrastructure, as reported by Iran's official IRNA news agency.
According to EMC's report, no significant impact from the Arabian Sea quake has been reported.
